Ilona Lay: The Homesickness of the Clouds

Poem from the cycle „October in the Mountains“, with musical setting.

What is happiness? In her 17 „Meditations on Happiness“, Ilona Lay offers answers to this question that are inspired by an autumnal stay in the mountains. One example of this is the poem …, which is presented here together with a musical setting.

Happiness is
this silky tapestry
which weightlessly rises
out of the murmuring rain

this cocoon of pearls
that healingly lies down
on the scars of the rock cheeks

this levitating nymph breath
fragrant of sage and dost
that penetrates your pores

this homesickness of the clouds
and their dancing tears
on their whirring way home

 Das Heimweh der Wolken

Das Glück ist dieses Gazetuch,
das sich schwerelos erhebt
aus dem raunenden Regen.

Dieses tropfenbetupfte Gespinst,
das heilend sich legt
auf die Narben der Felsenwangen.

Dieser nymphennasse Atem,
duftend nach Salbei und Dost,
der deine Poren durchdringt.

Dieses Heimweh der Wolken
und ihre tanzenden Tränen,
die singend sich nach Hause weinen.
