Autumn speaks of transience and loss – yet it also invites us to turn to the inner world. After months in which the outside world has dominated our attention, looking inwards can sharpen our sense for other, less tangible truths.
Autumn Song
Bales of straw lie scattered
across the battlefield of life.
Ravens roam around in it,
pecking at the remnants of the year.
The wind, a ghostly executioner,
tugs at the meadow’s withered curls.
Chimneys unite their soaring prayers
with the winding figures of the fog.
But in your heart’s November night
forgotten shores appear on the horizon,
and on the ferry of the moon, you sail
into a land both near and far,
where fairies soothe you with their tales
and weave you a cocoon of clouds.
